Design, Build and Migrate

The Goal:
Relocate clients into an optimized data center on budget, in time and without issue design, build and migrate

The Challenge:
Many of our clients have acquired companies with inefficient data centers requiring consolidation, while others have out grown their current facilities.  Designing, building and migrating a data center is one of the largest, most complex and critical projects a company will ever undertake.  Metagyre’s team has successfully completed numerous data center projects and developed the specialized skills and processes that ensure success.  From developing and executing the RFP bid process and site selection, to implementing efficient power, cooling, network cabling, rack layout and modular-based cabinet designs, our team works closely with you through all phases of the project.  Once the facility and infrastructure are in place, Metagyre will work with you to migrate the equipment, applications and data that are the heart of your business systems.

Design: Technical, project and financial
During the design phase Metagyre will gather data, interview stake holders and work closely with your team to develop designs that tie back to your technical requirements, growth plans, business drivers and budgetary realities.

  • Selected data center facilities
  • Power, cooling and space designs
  • Network cabling and fiber designs
  • Bid selection comparison matrix
  • Complete Bill of Materials (BOM)
  • Rack layouts and modular cabinet designs
  • Project plans and schedule, risks mitigation, communication plan, change control

Build: Core infrastructure
Your dedicated Metagyre team manages all of the project complexities including procurement, construction trades, vendor services, logistics, inventory tracking, asset tagging, racking, stacking and cabling to ensure a quality build to spec.

  • Contracted facilities, trades, Internet connectivity, infrastructure maintenance
  • Core space, power, cooling and auxiliary storage area
  • Cabling plant, over head cabinet copper and fiber, main distribution frame (MDF)
  • Core network, new servers, SAN and storage racked, stacked and cabled
  • Base services (DNS, AD, WINS…)

Migrate: Relocation of systems and data
Our relocation method was built by engineers for engineers.  A short interval schedule and build sheet for each system allows for a nimble, modular migration approach that can keep up with changing business needs and short time lines.

  • Migrated equipment, applications and data
  • Data center run book and “As Built” documentation
  • Optimized data center

Engagement & Time-line:
The Design, Build, Migrate engagement is conducted in a team approach.  A senior data center project manager will lead the engagement, and be supported by a data center architect as well as subject matter experts in the infrastructure, network, server and storage disciplines. The engagement time line is dependent on numerous inputs with scheduling details delivered out of the design phase.
